USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards just released its best of fall rankings, and one region in Massachusetts ranked among the best destinations for fall foliage. The annual awards highlight the best in travel, food and lifestyle, and winners are chosen by a public voting poll after being nominated by industry experts.

As the first signs of fall begin to appear around us, there is good news for those wanting to get the most out of the season this year: the Greater Cincinnati region is forecast to have some of the country's most vibrant leaf colors this fall.

A survey with 3,000 respondents found North Cascades National Park to be the best west coast spot for colorful leaves early in the fall.

Fall colors aren't just pleasing to the eyes, they're also a huge moneymaker for local economies. Vermont's Agency of Commerce and Community Development estimates that leaf peeping generates around $600 million and constitutes upwards of 20% of the state's total annual tourism economic activity each year.

Some parts of the Adirondacks are approaching the midpoint seasonal leaf transition this week, with other locations just beginning to see the color change. As usual, the area leads the way for color transition in the Empire State.

However, while New York City may not notice a change, I Love NY, the state’s tourism website, issued its second New York Fall Foliage Report, which indicates that most of the state is experiencing a turn toward the customary colors associated with the season.
