Officials have called for a quarantine in part of Orange County after an outbreak of an invasive pest. The oriental fruit fly, an invasive species that lays eggs inside of fruit — making them “unfit for consumption” — have been detected in and around Santa Ana and Garden Grove,

The quarantine zone is bordered on the north by Anaheim, on the south by John Wayne Airport, on the west by Huntington Beach, and on the east by State Highway 55.

Some of Orange County was placed under quarantine due to an invasive fruit fly species, according to the state's Department of Food and Agriculture, which has told residents in affected areas to not move homegrown fruits and vegetables from their property.

A portion of Orange County covering Santa Ana and Garden Grove is under quarantine after several Oriental fruit flies were detected.

The cities of Santa Ana and Garden Grove have been placed under quarantine on Wednesday in light of an uninvited and unwelcome visitor: the oriental fruit fly, an invasive pest that attacks over 230 crops including fruits,
