New rules say students will be banned from bringing phones to school for at least five days if they are caught harassing anyone online.

Colorado school districts will soon be able to apply for grants of up to $50,000 to help their students reduce cell phone use during the school day.

Classes are back in session for the 2024-25 school year, with a noticeable difference across Manitoba schools: a provincial government-imposed ban on cell phones. Camille Sanderson teaches Grade 7 at La Verendrye School and says cell phones were certainly becoming a hassle to deal with during the previous school year.

A school has introduced a ban on smartphones in an attempt to remove "constant access to the toxicity" of social media. Teachers at Boston Grammar School said since it introduced its Digital Detox in the summer term "noise has increased" because students are talking more.

Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath said that cellphone use in schools has an "extremely harmful" impact on students.

Gov. Kathy Hochul has recently supported the idea of a potential student phone ban statewide. Although the governor has not made any announcement of a mandate yet, local school leaders are weighing in.
