Coco Gauff won the WTA Finals for the first time by rallying to beat Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2) in the final on Saturday. The 20-year-old American came from 2-0 and 5-3 down in the final set and was two points from defeat at one stage.

Gauff’s gritty play ultimately sealed her second major title, following her 2023 U.S. Open win, and marked her first significant achievement with her new coach, Matt Daly. Though she’s working to refine her serve and forehand, Gauff leaned into her core strengths—defense, footwork and patience—to win over Zheng.

The American tennis star captured her first WTA Finals title over the weekend, beating Qinwen Zheng in a three-set thriller, 3–6, 6–4, 7–6. With this win, Gauff earned a record $4,805,000 from the tournament.

On Saturday, the 20-year-old survived a three-hour thriller in the Riyadh final and edged out Zheng Qinwen 3-6 6-4 7-6 (2). A couple of times during the match, the American had her back turned against the wall but managed to come back and ultimately win.

Gauff, 20, became the youngest woman since Maria Sharapova in 2004 to win the WTA title after her epic match against China’s Qinwen Zheng in Saudi Arabia.
